Dr. Geraldine King

Biography

Geraldine King (she/her/elle/kwe) is an Anishinaabe member-citizen of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek (Gull Bay Nation) located in the Robinson Superior Treaty area of Northwestern Ontario. She is currently a PhD candidate in the cultural studies program at Queen's University and has completed her MA in Indigenous Governance at the University of Victoria. Before joining McGill University, Geraldine was a Lecturer at the School of Canadian and Indigenous Studies at Carleton University, where she advanced Indigenous land-based education grounded in Indigenous communities. Her doctoral work focuses on Anishinaabe erotics, ethics of intimacy, kinship studies, and theories of Anishinaabe phenomenology. As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, she concentrates on developing and delivering land-based education. Geraldine also serves as the Senior Advisor in Indigenous Curriculum Pedagogy, providing strategic advice to individual faculty and academic leaders at the university to support meaningful and respectful relations with Indigenous communities and peoples. Additionally, she is an active leader in her Nation community, having been elected to serve on the Band Council while holding the education portfolio. Geraldine is recognized as an expert consultant in Indigenous facilitation, educational strategies, research design, and policy development, particularly in Anishinaabe-centered strategic planning. She has been featured in popular podcasts, including Relations Podcast, where she shares insights and humor about Anishinaabeg life and governance.
