Dr. Geralyn Messerlian

Biography

Geralyn M. L. Messerlian is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown University. She earned her PhD in Endocrinology from Brown and has significant expertise in reproductive hormones, particularly inhibin, which has been a focus of her research since 1990. Her work has contributed to the development of specific immunoassays for inhibin and has helped define normal physiological levels in both men and women. This research has led to clinical applications in prenatal screening and fertility assessments, including tests widely used globally. Messerlian is involved in ongoing studies related to preeclampsia, ovarian cancer, prenatal screening, and the analysis of thyroid hormone levels during pregnancy. With experience in managing major NIH-funded obstetrical grants, she has been a key figure in the FASTER trial, which compares prenatal screening methods in large cohorts of women. She has held a faculty development leadership role and continues to contribute significantly to women's health research.
