Dr. Gerard Mckeever

Biography

Gerard McKeever is a lecturer specializing in Modern Scottish Literature at the University of Edinburgh. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Glasgow, where he spent several years as a Research Assistant on the Oxford Edition of the Works of Robert Burns team, an endeavor that earned the team the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2023. McKeever was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow from 2017 to 2020 at the University of Glasgow, where he worked on a project titled 'Regional Romanticism: Dumfriesshire and Galloway, 1770–1830'. Following this, he served as a Research Fellow at the University of Stirling on the AHRC-funded project 'Books Borrowing 1750–1830', which won the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Digital Prize. Appointed at the University of Edinburgh in 2022, his recent research focuses on Scottish and British literature from the late eighteenth to the nineteenth centuries, exploring concepts of space, place, and print culture. His notable publications include 'Regional Romanticism: Literature from Southwest Scotland, c. 1770–1830' and 'Dialectics of Improvement: Scottish Romanticism, 1786–1831', which received the BARS Book Prize in 2021. McKeever is also involved in supervising postgraduate research projects related to Scottish literature, contributing significantly to the field and shaping future scholarship.
