Biography

Professor Gérard Medioni received his Diplôme d’Ingenieur from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications in Paris in 1977 and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1983. He has an extensive career focused on Image Understanding, having served as the Chairman of the Computer Science Department at USC from 2001 to 2007. He has published four books and numerous articles, and is a recipient of 18 patents. Medioni has been on the editorial board of various journals and has chaired major conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, WACV, and ICPR. He is a Fellow of multiple professional societies including the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). His research interests cover broad aspects of Image Understanding, particularly issues of representation and matching, and he is dedicated to designing and implementing reliable vision systems to tackle complex tasks using imperfect modules. Additionally, he has shown interest in bridging Computer Vision and Computer Graphics.
