Biography

Gerd Patrick Bienert studied biology at the University of Würzburg and the University of Darmstadt before pursuing his PhD studies under Jan Schjoerring in Copenhagen. After completing his doctorate, he moved on to work as a postdoctoral researcher in François Chaumont's laboratory at UCLouvain. In 2013, he received support from the Emmy Noether program of the German Research Foundation (DFG), allowing him to head an independent research group at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Gatersleben. He has served as a professor of Crop Physiology at the Technical University of Munich since 2020. His research focuses on the physiological mechanisms underlying plant responses to nutrients and toxins, particularly involving intrinsic proteins that facilitate nutrient transport in plants.
