Biography

Gergana Noutcheva is an Associate Professor in International Relations at Maastricht University. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, obtained in 2006. Since joining the Political Science Department of Maastricht University in January 2007, she has served as a Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels from 2002 to 2006 and a Marie Curie Fellow at her current institution from 2008 to 2010. Gergana has published extensively on EU enlargement policy and democracy promotion, with her work featured in several high-profile journals, including the Journal of Common Market Studies and West European Politics. She is also the author of 'European Foreign Policy Challenges: Balkan Accession: Conditionality, Legitimacy, and Compliance' and has co-edited volumes on EU values and security in its foreign policy.
