Biography

Gerhard Fink is a full Professor in Timber Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, specializing in probabilistic modeling and the development of engineered wood products. He focuses on innovative and sustainable solutions applicable in civil engineering. Fink studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Graz in Austria. Between 2009 and 2014, he conducted his PhD research at ETH Zurich, followed by a postdoctoral position. He later served as a scientific employee and project leader at the Structural Engineering Research Laboratory at Empa. From 2016 to 2025, he worked as a tenure-track professor at Aalto University in Finland, prior to his appointment at TUM. His key publications include works on two-way LVL–concrete composite plates, self-tapping screws in TCC floors, application of European design principles in cross-laminated timber, and probabilistic approaches to modeling the load-bearing capacity of glued laminated timber.
