Biography

Prof. Gerhard Müller conducts research in structural dynamics and vibroacoustics with a particular focus on dynamic soil-structure interaction, building dynamics, and sound radiation produced by vibrations in buildings and vehicles. Utilizing hybrid deterministic and statistical methods, he aims to advance the field of Civil Engineering. He completed his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 1989 and pursued postdoctoral research at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris in 1991. In 1993, he obtained his post-doctoral teaching qualification in Technical Mechanics at TUM. He began his career in 1992 at a large engineering company focusing on room acoustics, noise, vibration, and air pollution control, ultimately becoming managing director by 1995. He was appointed to his professorship at TUM in 2004 and has held several notable positions including Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and President of the European Association for Structural Dynamics from 2012 to 2017. His involvement in engineering education includes serving on the advisory board for the Association of German Engineers (VDI). Currently, he is the chairman of the Bavarian-French University Center (BayFrance) at TUM.
