Dr. Gerhard Weiss

Biography

Gerhard Weiss is a Full Professor at Maastricht University specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. He served as the Chair of the Data and Artificial Intelligence Research Group from 2010 to 2020. Weiss was the co-director of Swarmlab, a robotics laboratory, and has held the position of Honorary Professor at the University of Liverpool from 2014 to 2017. His role at Maastricht University also includes serving as the Scientific Director of SCCH GmbH in Austria, where he supervises various Research and Development projects and promotes strategic alignments between industry and academic research. Weiss has extensive experience as an assistant professor at the Technical University of Munich, where he led an AI/Cognition research group. He received his PhD from the Technical University of Munich and was awarded a Habilitation Degree from Johannes Kepler University Linz. His research interests encompass automated knowledge processing, multiagent systems, and the design and analysis of adaptive, learning systems for innovative software/hardware solutions. Key focus areas include machine learning, automated negotiation, cognitive robotics, brain-computer interfaces, and manufacturing applications. He is deeply committed to enhancing the collaboration between academia and industry to facilitate knowledge transfer and innovation.
