Biography

Geri Migielicz is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication at Stanford University, specializing in multimedia immersive journalism courses as part of the Stanford Graduate Program in Journalism. With prior experience as Director of Photography at the San Jose Mercury News from 1993 to 2009, Migielicz's leadership contributed to the paper winning prestigious awards in photo editing and multimedia journalism. Notably, the Mercury News received the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for General News Reporting under her editorial guidance during the Loma Prieta earthquake. In 2003, she was a Pulitzer finalist for Feature Photography while covering California’s recall election. Geri completed a Knight Fellowship at Stanford University during the 2004-2005 academic year, where she studied multimedia narratives. An inductee of the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame in 2013, she has participated as a visiting faculty member at the Poynter Institute in Media Studies. Migielicz has also served on the advisory board of the Kalish workshop for photo editors and has presented workshops through the Society of Newspaper Design and the National Press Photographers Association. Throughout her career, she has juried various professional and student multimedia photojournalism contests and remains engaged with educational initiatives in media studies.
