Professor Dr. Gerrit Kroesen

Biography

Gerrit Kroesen is an expert in plasma physics with over 40 years of experience in the field. His academic journey began at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he studied Applied Physics from 1977 to 1983. He developed a passion for plasma physics and pursued a PhD in the field, which he completed in 1988. Kroesen began his career as an Assistant Professor in the Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges (EPG) group in 1985. His career has included sabbaticals at IBM in New York and the University of Kyoto in Japan. He became an Associate Professor in 1996 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2000. Kroesen also served as the Dean of Applied Physics starting in 2012. His research encompasses internal elementary processes of plasma, including phenomena involving interaction with surfaces and the development of new diagnostics. His work has applications in various domains such as environmental applications, plasma displays, and medical applications. He continues to be a vital contributor to advancements in plasma physics and its application in technology.
