Biography

Gert Jan de Borst was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, and obtained his medical degree at the University of Utrecht in 1996. He graduated in September 1999 and subsequently became a research fellow in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht, participating in the substudy of the Dutch Bypass Oral Anticoagulant Aspirin study (BOA trial). During this period, he conducted animal experiments on endovascular venous valve transplantation. In 2001, he began his residency in general surgery in the department of Surgery under the guidance of Professor IHM Borel Rinkes. He completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery from January 2007 to December 2009 with Professor FL Moll, finishing his PhD on carotid artery revascularization in August 2007. Since April 2009, he has worked as a vascular surgeon, focusing on the development and validation of image-guided interventions and medical devices to improve outcomes in atherosclerotic disease and aneurysms, as well as pharmaceutical interventions like anti-inflammatory and anticoagulation therapies.
