Biography

Gery Geenens is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW Sydney. He earned his PhD in Statistics from Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium in July 2008. Following his doctoral studies, he undertook post-doctoral research at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Professor Peter Hall before joining UNSW in October 2009. His research focuses on developing nonparametric and semiparametric methods for various statistical contexts, with particular emphasis on nonparametric regression models, including kernel smoothing methods and Single-Index Models. He also explores nonparametric copula models for dependence modeling and functional data analysis. Geenens has been involved in various research grants, including the Faculty Research Grant from 2014 to 2016 and Early Career Research Grants from 2010 to 2013 at UNSW. He actively supervises students in research projects related to nonparametric statistics and teaches several courses, including Statistics for engineering students and Nonparametric Statistics. Gery is also an Associate Editor for 'Statistics and Probability Letters' and a member of the Belgian Statistical Society.
