Dr. Getiye Kibret

Biography

Getiye Kibret is a biostatistician and data scientist with a robust research profile, currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the NHMRC Partnership Project within the Australian Institute of Health Innovation. Getiye earned a PhD in Public Health from the University of Technology Sydney, where the research focused on maternal and newborn health services utilization in Ethiopia using advanced statistical methods including Bayesian modeling, geospatial analysis, and multilevel modeling. His academic credentials include a Master of Public Health from Debre Markos University, a Master’s in Biostatistics from the University of Gondar, and a Bachelor of Nursing from Debre Birhan University in Ethiopia. He began his academic career with a decade-long role as a lecturer at Debre Markos University and received the prestigious International Research Training Program scholarship to study at the University of Technology Sydney in 2019. Before his current position, Getiye worked as a database biostatistician at the University of Sydney from 2022 to 2023. He is actively engaged in a variety of national and international research collaborations and has authored 70 peer-reviewed research articles in high-impact journals such as BMJ, JAMA, and Lancet Public Health, and has presented his work at over 20 national and international conferences.
