Biography

Gheorghe Chistol is an Assistant Professor in Chemical Systems Biology at Stanford University. He specializes in understanding how eukaryotic cells replicate DNA while managing various challenges that threaten genome integrity, collectively referred to as replication stress. His research focuses on the mechanisms that regulate the activity of replicative helicases, control the inheritance of epigenetic information during replication, and facilitate ubiquitin-mediated regulation of genome maintenance. To achieve these goals, he employs advanced techniques such as single-molecule microscopy to directly visualize fluorescently-labeled replication factors in real time within Xenopus egg extracts. Dr. Chistol's laboratory aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying genome stability and explore the connections between genome instability and cancer in hopes of advancing treatment strategies.
