Biography

Ghislain Thibault is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the Université de Montréal (Canada), where he teaches media studies and media history. He completed his doctorate at the Université de Montréal in 2010 and pursued postdoctoral studies at Harvard's Department of the History of Science. His research focuses on the imaginaries of wireless technologies, the role of the concept of the machine in media theory, and the history of media theories, which have been published in journals such as Configurations, VIEW, Canadian Literature, Canadian Journal Communication, and Intermédialités. Thibault is currently directing a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded research project titled 'Look Media History Aerial Advertising' (2021-2025), which examines the material infrastructures, theoretical models, and popular reception of various means of mass communication that use the sky as a medium, frame, or screen.
