Biography

Giacomo Aloisi is a PhD student in Seismology and Wave Physics at ETH Zurich, specializing in numerical modeling of wave equations and inverse problems. He obtained his Master's degree in Computational Science Engineering in 2023 from ETH Zurich, with his thesis focused on Full Waveform Inversion for Medical Ultrasound Tomography utilizing Julia with multi-GPU processing capabilities. His current research involves Limited Domain Ambient Noise Full Waveform Inversion, addressing the challenge of computing inter-station cross-correlations within a numerically constrained domain, relying on generalized interferometry theory and the wave representation theorem. He has contributed to the development of SeismicWaves.jl, a Julia package designed for forward and adjoint modeling of wave equations, taking advantage of GPU computational power for running finite-difference-based simulations. Additionally, he has showcased his work in presentations, including a YouTube video for JuliaCon 2024.
