Biography

Giacomo Nannicini is an Associate Professor in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. His main research and teaching interests lie in optimization, broadly defined, with applications in algorithms, software models, computation, and quantum computing. Dr. Nannicini obtained his Ph.D. from the Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France. He has worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before joining USC, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design within the Engineering Systems & Design pillar and worked at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center focusing on quantum algorithms. His notable awards include the 2021 Beale–Orchard-Hays prize, the IEEE QCE 2021 Paper Award in the quantum algorithms track, the 2016 COIN-OR Cup, the 2015 Robert Faure prize, and the 2012 Glover-Klingman prize.
