Biography

Giacomo Nannicini is an Associate Professor in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. His main research and teaching interests lie in optimization, broadly defined, with a focus on applications. He is particularly interested in algorithms, software models, and computation, including quantum computing. Nannicini obtained his PhD from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and has previously worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business and at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He has also served as an Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design within the Engineering Systems & Design pillar and collaborated with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center's quantum algorithms group. Nannicini has received several prestigious awards for his work, including the 2021 Beale–Orchard-Hays prize and the 2021 IEEE QCE Paper Award in the quantum algorithms track, as well as previous recognitions such as the COIN-OR Cup and the Glover-Klingman prize.
