Biography

Giacomo D. Simonetti is a full professor at the Faculty of Biomedicine at the Università della Svizzera italiana, where he serves as the medical scientific director of the Pediatric Institute of Southern Switzerland. He has extensive experience in pediatrics, having graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Bern in 1999. He worked as an assistant physician in the pediatric department at the Regional Hospital Bellinzona in 2001 and later received training in pediatrics and pediatric nephrology at prominent institutions including the University Children's Hospital Bern and the University Children's Hospital Heidelberg, Germany. He obtained his FMH title as a pediatric specialist in 2005 and further specialized in pediatric nephrology in 2008. His academic tenure includes a habilitation (PD) at the University of Bern in 2009 and an associate professorship there in 2012. Simonetti has led the Pediatric Nephrology Unit at the University Children's Hospital Bern from 2010 to 2014 and has published numerous scientific articles in his field. His research focuses on arterial hypertension in children, pharmacological therapies, and cardiovascular complications. He is actively involved in teaching and mentorship in clinical settings and holds various roles in national and international professional societies. His efforts have been recognized at both national and international levels, including awards from the Swiss Heart Foundation.
