Biography

Giacomo graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He pursued a PhD studying the vibroacoustic properties of grand piano soundboards. Since joining the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton in 2012 as a research fellow, he has contributed to the EU project Acoutrain. In 2015, he became a New Frontiers Fellow at the Faculty of Engineering and has progressed from lecturer to Associate Professor by 2023. Giacomo's primary research focus is on railway noise and vibration, and he is recognized for his significant contributions, having published 30 journal papers. His work also encompasses vibroacoustic analysis of piano acoustics, exploring sound generation and its applications. He is currently a programme lead for the MSc in Acoustical Vibration Engineering and engages students through innovative teaching methods including computer animations and in-class experiments.
