Biography

Gianluca Gregori is a Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford, specializing in high-energy-density science and laboratory astrophysics. His research focuses on high-power lasers and dense plasmas found in the interior of stars and planets. He began his career at Oxford University in October 2007 as an RCUK Fellow in the Department of Atomic and Laser Physics. In 2012, he became a Fellow Tutor in Physics at Lady Margaret Hall and was appointed Professor of Physics in 2013. Prior to joining Oxford, Gregori worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the USA from 2001 to 2005, where he was involved in the Fast Ignitor Physics group of the Inertial Confinement Fusion Program, first as a post-doctoral researcher and later as a staff scientist. From 2005 to 2012, he held a senior experimental scientist position at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Gregori's contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the Daiwa Adrian Prize, the Edouard Fabre International Scientific Prize, and the John Dawson Award for excellence in plasma physics, along with the Cecelia Payne-Gaposchkin Medal Prize from the Institute of Physics. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. from the University of Minnesota, USA, and an M.S. from the University of Bologna, Italy.
