Gianmarco Bianchini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Toronto. He completed his B.A. in Classics at Sapienza University of Rome in 2014, followed by an M.A. in Philology, Literatures, and History of the Ancient World in 2016. His undergraduate thesis focused on the fragmentary satyr plays of Sophocles and was supervised by Prof. M. Di Marco. His M.A. thesis examined the relationship between epigraphic citations and the manuscript tradition of Ovid, supervised by Prof. G.L. Gregori and M. Rosellini. Bianchini's research interests encompass Latin poetry and Roman epigraphy, with a particular focus on ancient scholarship and Latin verse inscriptions. His doctoral dissertation explored how ancient commentators and grammarians conceived and utilized auctoritas among Latin poets, with an emphasis on the written reception of Lucretius and Ovid. He is also a member of the Collaborative Specialization in Editing Ancient and Medieval Texts and currently works on the manuscript tradition of ps.-Asconius' commentary on Cicero's Diuinatio Caecilium. Bianchini defended his doctoral thesis on April 4 and has begun a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Campania 'Luigi Vanvitelli', which runs until November 30, 2025.
