Biography

Gianmaria Zamagni is a private lecturer in the History of Religion at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. Since 2009, he has been a researcher and later project coordinator at the Center of Excellence Religion and Politics at the University of Münster, focusing on the legitimization of violence in the Spanish Civil War. He served as the scientific coordinator for the international project Vatican II. Legacy Mandate, directed by Joachim Schmiedl. He has collaborated with several universities including the Institute for Theology and Social Ethics at TU Darmstadt, Bielefeld University, and the University of Bologna, as well as high schools such as CIEE in Berlin and the Berlin Bilingual School. Zamagni is also a graduate in Theology from Vinzenz Pallotti University in Vallendar, Germany, and is a member of the scientific committee of the Collegio San Carlo Foundation in Modena. He is a correspondent for CRID (Interdepartmental Research Center on Discrimination and Vulnerability) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. His research interests range from the theology of religions and global ethics to medieval biblical hermeneutics and the theological-political concept of the 'End of the Constantinian Era'. Recent developments focus on the legitimization of war and violence, peace theology, the events and legacy of the Second Vatican Council, and the theme of security in Stefan Zweig and Jewish-Christian theology.
