Biography

Gijsbert van Iterson Scholten teaches international relations and peace studies at the University of Amsterdam’s Department of Political Science. His academic specializations include peacebuilding and positive conceptions of peace. He obtained his PhD from Vrije Universiteit in 2018 with a dissertation on the meanings of peace as understood by those who enact it. This work was published in 2020 by Palgrave Macmillan in the 'Rethinking Peace Conflict Studies' series. His current research particularly focuses on positive notions of peace that extend beyond the mere absence of war.
