Biography

Gil Davis is an Associate Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Macquarie University, with extensive research experience in ancient Mediterranean studies, particularly focusing on Ancient Greece and numismatics. He has directed the Ancient Mediterranean Studies program and serves as the Managing Editor for the Journal of the Numismatic Association of Australia. His teaching includes Greek History and the Athenian Empire at the Master's level. Gil obtained his PhD from Macquarie University, analyzing Late Archaic Athenian law and economy through numismatics and epigraphy. He has published extensively on topics related to coin analysis and economic developments in the Greek world, particularly in the 6th to 5th centuries BC. Gil is also involved in significant research projects, including one funded by the European Research Council, and actively collaborates on projects that analyze ancient silver sources. Additionally, he has held an Invited Professorship at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. Beyond academia, he has experience in real estate and authored a widely used guide for home-sellers. Currently, he leads community-supported educational initiatives related to Ancient Israel.
