Biography

Gilbert David taught dramaturgy, history, and aesthetics of theatre from 1998 to 2011 at the University of Montreal’s Department of French Literature, where he is now an associate professor. He is a regular member of the Interuniversity Research Center on Quebec Literature and Culture (CRILCQ, UdeM site) and has published numerous articles in various journals since 1976, contributing to collective works and reference publications. His recent publications include the collective work 'Le corps déjoué. Figures du théâtre de Larry Tremblay' (2009), and the dossier 'Une dramaturgie à soi: l’écriture du théâtre des femmes au Québec' (2010). David has organized workshops on dramaturgy and was responsible for the scientific committee for the international conference 'L’Amérique francophone, pièce sur pièce' in 2009. He directed a documentary tool called Rappels that documented productions and data from theatre seasons in Quebec and was involved in several research grants focusing on contemporary theatre practices in Quebec. Currently, he leads a team working on socio-aesthetic regimes in Quebec theatre from 1945 to 2015.
