Biography

Gilbert Moeckel graduated magna cum laude from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Germany, and trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. He served on faculty in the Department of Pathology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, before being appointed as Professor of Pathology at Yale University. Dr. Moeckel directs the Renal Pathology Electron Microscopy Laboratory and the Renal & Genitourinary Fellowship Program. His academic interests focus on clinical renal pathology, particularly the mechanisms of kidney injury, repair, and the progression of chronic kidney disease. He is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and a diplomat of the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Moeckel has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and has received both private industry and federal grants to support his research. His work continues to explore significant research projects, including the roles of DDT/MIF2 in acute tubular injury repair and the involvement of intrinsic progenitor cells in kidney injury repair.
