Biography

Gillen D'Arcy Wood is the Robert W. Schaefer Professor in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Illinois University, where he holds appointments in the Department of English and the Department of Earth Science and Environmental Change. His upcoming book, 'The Wake of HMS Challenger: A Legendary Victorian Voyage Tells the Story of the Oceans' Decline' (2025), continues his exploration of environmental themes through historical narratives. His work has been translated into eight languages, and he has received multiple awards including the Carnegie Foundation Fellowship and the Robert W. Schaefer Professorship.
