Dr. Gilles Gignac

Biography

Gilles Gignac's research aims to deepen the understanding of psychological variations among individuals, focusing on the origins and measurements of outcomes. His primary areas of focus include rigorous psychometric methods to measure abilities, with a special emphasis on financial literacy, as well as the causes and consequences of financial literacy. Gignac also investigates meta-cognition, particularly the ability of individuals to accurately assess their own capabilities, and explores narcissism characterized by individuals' overestimation of their abilities. His work examines the parallels between human and artificial intelligence, emphasizing robust metrics and interdisciplinary collaboration. Gignac has a strong academic background, having completed his undergraduate Honours degree in Psychology at Laurentian University, a Master’s in Psychology with a focus on Psychometrics at the University of Western Ontario, and a PhD in Psychology from Swinburne University of Technology. His current roles include Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia, where he has also served as Deputy Head and Director of Undergraduate Programs. Gignac regularly supervises Honours students and holds editorial responsibilities with several notable journals.
