Biography

Gillian Abir graduated from Glasgow University (UK) in 1998, initially undertaking parts of surgical residency and emergency medicine residency, and completed anesthesiology residency training in Glasgow and Sheffield (UK). She undertook obstetric anesthesiology fellowship-equivalent at Stanford University School of Medicine and is currently a Clinical Professor. Gillian serves as the Associate Division Chief and Clinical Director of the Division of Obstetric Anesthesiology, as well as the residency program coordinator for obstetric anesthesiology. She has published several manuscripts and book chapters and leads a multidisciplinary obstetric simulation team. Gillian is a member of various committees focused on obstetric disaster preparedness and patient safety. She is also involved in global health initiatives as a member of the Board of Directors for Kybele Inc., regularly volunteering to teach obstetric anesthesiology in various countries. Her clinical focus includes anesthesia and obstetric anesthesia.
