Biography

Dr. Gillian Muir is the Dean of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan, a position she has held since July 1, 2021, after serving as interim dean. She graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from WCVM in 1988 and completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Muir joined the WCVM faculty in 1996 and quickly established herself as a gifted instructor and neuroscientist, using animal models to study functional recovery from spinal cord injury. She served as the head of WCVM's Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences from 2014 to 2020, where she was involved in renewing the college’s curriculum for the DVM program and developing the college’s strategic plan as part of the University Plan 2025. As dean, she continues to promote the college's goals of equality, diversity, and inclusion while providing leadership for its strategic initiatives. Dr. Muir remains energized and focused, aiming to advance the college's mission and vision for the future.
