Biography

Gillian Parekh is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Disability Studies in Education at York University. She is also cross-appointed in the graduate program of Critical Disability Studies within the Faculty of Health. Prior to her academic role, Gillian worked as a teacher and special education research coordinator for the Toronto District School Board, engaging in comprehensive school-based research. Her work primarily focuses on issues of structural equity, special education, and the academic streaming of students with disabilities. Gillian has contributed significantly to understanding how educational systems can better respond to the needs of students with disabilities and has been involved in organizing programs that address these challenges. Through her research and teaching, she is committed to advocating for inclusive education and exploring the intersections of disability, education, and social justice.
