Dr. Gillian Tully

Biography

Gillian Tully has over 30 years of experience in research, casework, and regulation, establishing herself as an internationally recognized leader in forensic science. From November 2014 to February 2021, she served as the Forensic Science Regulator for England and Wales, where she was an independent Ministerial Appointee responsible for setting quality standards for forensic science within the Criminal Justice System, advising on various government challenges. Gill has provided expert evidence to multiple Parliamentary Committees and courts, both domestically and internationally. In 2020, she was awarded a CBE for her services to forensic science. She holds several patents and has numerous peer-reviewed publications, showcasing her ability to translate research ideas from inception to the court. Her work includes advising the government and multinational companies on bringing research to market, with active collaboration on an international scale. Her current research interests focus on improving the quality and effectiveness of forensic science and enhancing the interface between science and law. Gill is a member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences and the International Society for Forensic Genetics, and she holds honorary positions within the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and the Society of Legal Scholars, as well as being an Honorary Research Fellow at the Natural History Museum.
