Biography

Dr. Gina Vale joined the University of Southampton in 2022 after holding a post-doctoral fellowship at King’s College London and serving as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR). She has academic and professional experience across Europe, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa, and has conducted extensive fieldwork in internally displaced persons camps in Northern Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan. Her work has not only been published in academic journals but also featured in print and broadcast journalism, including the Netflix documentary ‘World’s Wanted,’ which focused on the radicalization trajectory of Samantha Lewthwaite, also known as the ‘White Widow.’ Vale earned her PhD in War Studies, as well as an MA in Terrorism, Security, and Society from King’s College London, and a BA(Hons) in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge.
