Dr. Ginger Nolan

Biography

Ginger Nolan is an architectural historian whose work focuses on the intersections of race, class, architecture, and media technologies. She has published two significant books: "Savage Mind, Savage Machine: Racial Science and Twentieth-Century Design" (2021) and "Neocolonialism and the Global Village" (2018), both with University of Minnesota Press. In addition to her books, Nolan has written numerous book chapters and articles in esteemed journals such as Grey Room, Journal of Architecture, and Architecture Theory Review. Her current research involves a book on the relationship between twentieth-century African American-owned insurance companies and urban development. As an Associate Professor at the USC School of Architecture, she teaches courses that critically engage students in understanding architectural history and contemporary issues, fostering analytical skills and critical thinking.
