Biography

Ginny Russell began her career as a researcher at the BBC’s Natural History Unit in Bristol, where she transitioned into a role as a television producer and director. She now focuses on academic research in neurodevelopmental disorders, having published over 60 articles and a book titled 'Rise of Autism', which is available open access. Her work has been featured in prominent outlets such as The Guardian and Radio 4’s statistics series 'The Autism Curve'. One of her notable papers on time trends in autism diagnosis was nominated for a 2023 award by the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and has been widely cited to inform NHS policy. In 2025, Dr. Russell joined University College London to support the MSc in Mental Health at the Clinical Sciences Division of Psychiatry. In her free time, she enjoys walking the South West Coast Path with her dog.
