Biography

Giovanni De Micheli is a research scientist specializing in electronics and computer science. He is credited with the invention of the Network on Chip design automation paradigm and the creation of algorithms and design tools for Electronic Design Automation (EDA). Currently, he serves as the Scientific Director of the EcoCloud Center at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), overseeing activities aimed at establishing sustainable computation and designing energy-efficient data centers and edge devices. Previously, he held positions as Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the LSI Laboratory at EPFL. De Micheli earned his Nuclear Engineer degree from Politecnico di Milano in 1979, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980 and 1983, respectively. He has authored numerous publications and books, including 'Synthesis and Optimization of Digital Circuits' and has an h-index of 100, indicating a significant impact in his field. Additionally, he has received various accolades, including the IEEE Gustav Kirchhoff Award and the ESDA-IEEE/CEDA Phil Kaufman Award.
