Biography

Giovanni B. Pedrazzini is the Head of the Cardiology Service at the Cardiocentro Institute, where he directed the interventional cardiology service from 1999 to 2017. In 2017, he became one of the first five full professors at the newly established Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana, taking on the role of Dean from January 1, 2021. After studying medicine in Lausanne, he obtained his internal medicine qualification in 1991 and specialized in cardiology in 1996, further training under Professors Bernard Maier in Bern and Thomas Lüscher in Zurich, with brief periods abroad focused on interventional cardiology. He has been instrumental in the implementation of cutting-edge percutaneous techniques for treating primary myocardial infarction since the early 2000s and has led international conferences on high-risk coronary structural interventions. As a clinical researcher, he oversees the Swiss registry for percutaneous mitral valve treatment with Mitraclip, including over 1500 patients. His primary scientific interests include percutaneous valve therapies, antiplatelet treatment, and acute coronary syndrome. He is actively involved in the Swiss Society of Cardiology and serves on various scientific boards. Additionally, he coordinates a humanitarian project in Guinea-Bissau and is committed to community service in Kolkata. He advocates teamwork in all aspects of his professional life, believing that collaborative efforts lead to exceptional outcomes.
