Biography

Giovanni Traverso is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a gastroenterologist in the Division of Gastroenterology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is also an Associate Member of the Broad Institute. Traverso's research focuses on the development of novel biomedical technologies aimed at improving drug delivery and adherence. His lab has pioneered the integration of robotics and biomedical engineering to create advanced platforms for drug delivery, biosensing tools, and other innovative medical technologies. He earned his BA from Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, his PhD from Johns Hopkins University, and his M.B., B.Chir from Cambridge. After medical school, he completed residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology. His innovative research aims to transform how diseases can be detected and treated through engineering solutions.
