Biography

Prof. Gisela Detrell focuses her research on developing technologies for human spaceflight, particularly emphasizing Life Support Systems. Her work includes the use of microalgae photobioreactors for oxygen and food production during long-duration missions, as well as simulation studies for future human spaceflight missions to the Moon and Mars. She studied Aerospace Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and completed her doctorate on the reliability analysis of Life Support Systems for long-duration space missions at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Since then, she has continued her research at the Institute of Space Systems in Stuttgart, leading a research group until her appointment as a professor in Human Spaceflight Technology at TUM School of Engineering and Design in 2023.
