Biography

Giselle Bosse is a Full Professor holding a personal chair in EU External Democracy Support and the Jean Monnet Chair on EU Foreign Policy at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University. She is a Fellow at the European Democracy Hub in Brussels. Her research examines EU relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, emphasizing the EU's support for democracy initiatives within the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership. Her work also addresses EU enlargement, particularly the integration pathways of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, and the role of democratic institutions and the rule of law in the accession process of these countries. Bosse has received significant research grants, including a VENI Grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research for her work on EU relations with autocratic regimes, and an ASPASIA Research Grant on non-state actors in EU foreign policy. She currently leads work packages for EU Horizon projects EMBRACE (2022-2025) and INVIGORATE (2024-2027), focusing on barriers to democratization in the EU's neighbourhood. Bosse has published extensively in international journals and books, including the Journal of Common Market Studies and Geopolitics, and frequently presents her research at leading think tanks and international conferences. Additionally, she is an expert commentator in various media outlets and has served in administrative roles within her faculty.
