Biography

Giulia Mariani holds an M.Sc. in Specialized Economic Analysis from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Political and Social Science from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Government at Uppsala University. Her research primarily focuses on the opposition to abortion within the European Union. She has received a Postdoc grant from the Swedish Research Council for her project titled "Opposition to Gender Equality Policies in the European Multi-Level Space: The Case of Abortion," which aims to gain an understanding of anti-abortion organizations operating at supranational levels and how they leverage the European Union's governing bodies to advance their agenda. Her past research includes her Ph.D. dissertation titled "Political Discursive Opportunities and Institutional Change: The Case of Marriage Equality in the United States," where she examined the gradual institutional changes in morality policies and the struggle of the LGBT movement for marriage rights in the face of opposition.
