Professor Dr. Giuliano Di Baldassarre

Biography

Giuliano Di Baldassarre is a professor of Hydrology and Environmental Analysis at Uppsala University, heading the LUVAL division of Air Water Landscape Sciences. His research focuses on risks, crises, and disasters stemming from the interactions between water, the environment, and society. Through multi-, inter-, and trans-disciplinary approaches, he employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to advance fundamental science and inform policy within the context of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and sustainable water management. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Volker Medal from the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, the Plinius Medal from the European Geosciences Union, and the Witherspoon Lecture Award from the American Geophysical Union. Di Baldassarre also leads the global IAHS research initiative Panta Rhei, focusing on water-society interactions. He is the director of the Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science (CNDS) and has published over 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to the field of hydrology and environmental science.
