Dr. Giuseppe Dari Mattiacci

Biography

Giuseppe Dari-Mattiacci is a professor of law and economics and the director of the PhD Program in Legal Studies at the University of Amsterdam. He is also a fellow at the Tinbergen Institute and a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute. His academic journey began at Columbia Law School, where he graduated, and he joined the University of Amsterdam in 2004. Since then, he has served in various capacities, including co-director of the Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics. Dari-Mattiacci's research primarily focuses on the evolution of legal institutions and business organizations, showcasing the interplay between contract and property institutions alongside enforcement regulations. He has held visiting positions at prestigious institutions, including George Mason University, University of Chicago, Columbia University, and New York University. In leadership roles, he served as the president of the European Association of Law & Economics from 2018 to 2020. His contributions to the field have earned him multiple awards including the Oliver E. Williamson Prize and the American Law & Economics Association prize. Dari-Mattiacci has published extensively in various academic journals, and he has co-edited a two-volume book on Roman Law & Economics published by Oxford University Press.
