Dr. Giuseppe Filardo

Biography

Giuseppe Filardo earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2004 from Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Italy, and specialized in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, Italy, in 2009. He completed a research fellowship at the Rush Cartilage Restoration Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and obtained his PhD in 2014 from Bologna University, focusing on cartilage regenerative treatments. He is the president of the Cartilage Regenerative Medicine Committee of the Italian society SIAGASCOT and a member of the Orthobiologic Initiative of the European society ESSKA. Additionally, he serves as Deputy-Chair of the Fellowship Committee of the International society ICRS and is a member of the editorial boards of journals such as AJSM, JEO, BioMed Research International, and OJSM. He has reviewed for the KSSTA Cartilage journals and has been awarded for his research contributions, participating in both national and international projects in orthopaedic biotechnologies. His primary clinical and translational research activities are conducted at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano in Switzerland and the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, Italy. He has authored more than 300 articles published in international journals, with a Scopus H-index of 56 and a Google Scholar citation count of 67. His main research interests include regenerative medicine, particularly involving biomaterials, mesenchymal stem/stromal cells, and platelet growth factors for new treatments of musculoskeletal tissues, with a special focus on cartilage, meniscus, and tendon lesions.
