Biography

Giuseppe Pietraroia is currently a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Victoria and serves as the Associate Conductor of the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera. He has an extensive background as a guest conductor with various prestigious orchestras including l’Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestra London, Vancouver Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Hamilton Philharmonic, Okanagan Symphony, Regina Symphony, and Thunder Bay Symphony. His opera engagements with Pacific Opera have included well-known productions such as Il Barbiere Di Siviglia, La Traviata, and La Boheme. Further notable conducting works include performances at l’Opéra de Montréal, l’Opéra de Québec, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and more. As Music Director of the Victoria Choral Society for 7 seasons, he conducted various notable works, including Handel’s Messiah and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater. His recordings with soprano Marie-Josée Lord under the ATMA label led to a Felix award and a Juno award nomination. Additionally, he is the recipient of the George Jane Heffelfinger Pacific Opera Victoria Artist Year Award and Canada's Jean-Marie Beaudet Award for Orchestral Conducting.
