Biography

Giuseppe Pileio obtained his Laurea Magistralis degree, magna cum laude, in 2002 from the University of Calabria, Italy. He took his PhD in 2005, with an excellent grade, under the supervision of Prof. M. Longeri and Prof. J. W. Emsley, focusing on nuclear magnetic resonance in liquid-crystalline phases. In 2006, he joined the group of Prof. M. H. Levitt at the University of Southampton as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, where he contributed to the experimental and theoretical development of long-lived states, addressing theoretical aspects and developing original experiments. In 2011, he spent a year as a visitor researcher at the Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Research Institute at the University of Cambridge in Prof. K. M. Brindle’s group, focusing on long-lived states and dynamic nuclear polarization. At the University of Southampton, Giuseppe was promoted to Senior Research Fellow in 2011, then to Lecturer in December 2015, and Associate Professor in 2022. He has been active in administrative roles, including as a Director at the University of Southampton, and continues to engage in significant research projects.
