Biography

Giuseppe Romano is a research scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative, specializing in computation-driven materials discovery and the application of renewable energy technologies. He is the lead developer of OpenBTE, an open-source software program designed for simulating nanoscale thermal transport in nanostructured materials. In the summer of 2018, Romano served as a visiting scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), where he focused on the investigation of next-generation Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs). Currently, he is leading efforts within the MIT Quest for Intelligence, focusing on the inverse design of nanostructures through the use of machine learning techniques. At MITEI, Romano is also coordinating the development of a differentiable simulator for solar energy generation, contributing to advancements in energy efficiency and innovative computational methods in materials science.
