Biography

Gladys M. Mercier is the Program Director of the Master of Science in Software Management at Carnegie Mellon University. For the past 18 years, Gladys has served as a faculty member at the Silicon Valley campus of Carnegie Mellon. Originally from Sacramento, California, she attended college in Boston and Pittsburgh, where she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and launched her software career in industrial automation. Throughout her career, she has worked in various roles including analyst, engineer, designer, quality assurance, trainer, team lead, and product owner, allowing her to travel extensively while installing systems across the United States and Brazil. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2002, Gladys has been a vital part of the Carnegie Mellon community and has developed and taught project management courses at Heinz College. Now back in California, she teaches project management, software processes, teamwork, and business analysis, and co-teaches a career management course. In her free time, Gladys enjoys playing ice hockey and is a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks. She also volunteers for the California Native Plant Society and is currently studying sustainability education at Prescott College.
